Reflection on what I've learned about blogging as a teacher

I had the opportunity of being able to listen to Kaila and Kristi talk about their experiences as teacher bloggers and how it all works. I like the way Kaila and Kristi have their instagram set up and how quickly they will reply if there is any questions. I think they both made very good points on how to work a Professional Learning Network.

What I learned about Professional Learning Networks, many teachers use them or have accounts of their own whether it is on Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube etc. These accounts ensure ways for teachers to receive new information to use in the classroom or share techniques they use themselves. Having a blogging account as a teacher allows you to receive feedback and learn different ideas. There is always new ideas on how to improve yourself as a teacher or new lessons to teach students. Social media as a teacher allows for there to be new ideas circling as 24/7 instead of running of the same ideas until we retire.

My key takeaways from the guest speakers are that it is very easy to start a blogging page as a teacher. What caught my attention most when Kaila and Kristi were on the call is that they mentioned the way they thought of new lessons to teach is by thinking of a hands on activity first then back tracking on what the students need to learn before they are able to fully understand the activity that will be completed. Also if the teacher is excited about teaching the new unit or introducing lessons to students, the students will also become excited and will want to learn. Also waiting 24 hours before responding to hate comments because that way it allows for the anger to die down without causing anymore drama. Another take away is to bounce ideas off one another since a lot of the time teachers or student teachers struggle to come up with new ideas for each lesson.

positives about social media is that there will always be new ideas for lessons that can be taught, having other people comment on your teaching ideas and any input they may have. However, there is also negative effects with social media since people can hate on you or send hate comments to your account. Also if you were to mess up on social media it will be on the internet forever possibly recking your career or future plans. As long as teacher bloggers are careful when using social media for the most part it can be used to an advantage.
